Shade Tree Micro Aviation is pleased to present this replica of a Cessna O-1G which is
an updated version of the venerable U.S. Army L-19A reconnaissance airplane. The civilian
version of this airplane is the Cessna 305D, as certificated on Type Certificate 5A5,
Revision 30, dated 4 April 1994.
The kit contains 4 models: The first 3, a U.S. Army BirdDog on Wheels, Skis, and Floats,
show the tail number and markings from an actual O-1G belonging to Echo Battery, 82d Field
Artillery, The 1St Cavalry Divsion's General Support aviation battery and flown by Jim McNeill
(Papa Mac) in the Republic of Viet Nam (RVN) in 1968. It is as authentic as the limitations of
X-Plane´s Plane Maker utility and the talents of the authors permit. A variation on
these models is created by changing the skin to the O-1A (which is virtually identical to
the O-1A in outward appearance and performance) worked on and flown by Bedford Lasley while
assigned to the Tennessee Army National Guard. Bedford generously gave us a complete set of
operators and maintenance manual for the airplane and this version is provided and named in
his honor.
A final unique varient is a Canadian Air Cadet trainer with skin by Michael Wilson of
Wilson Aircraft. This model doesn´t have the rocket pods mounted.
The GoodWay Compatible Model features:
- Transparent windows and detailed fully animated 3D cockpit.
- A realistic instrument panel by FBA´s Peter Fisher with gauges that are as
close to those installed in the real airplane as X-Plane permits.
- Openable doors and windows.
- A unique animated pilot figure by RogerThat, CA´s Bob Feaver.
- Documents include checklists extracted from the actual airplane´s Pilot
Operating Handbook (POH).
- Animated skis that conform to the airplane´s pitch attitude (ski version only)
- Animated water rudders (float version only)
We hope you enjoy flying this airplane as much as we enjoyed developing it for you.
