STMA is creating a series of aircraft owned by the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum. These X-Plane models will be flown by visitors on their custom built simulators

Here is what Norm LaGasse, museum executive director, has to say about our O-1 Bird Dog on skis which is currently in use on their simulator: "Ole Dog on skis is a hit with the visitors. They really enjoy the the challenge of trying to land her on the mountain glaciers." He is anticipating even more excitement when they can fly their own aircraft on simular exciting adventures.

XNO2 & The Garmin GNS 530 GPS

NEWS: PC, MAC and Linux X-Plane users can now enjoy the functionality of XNO2 through a new Python-based GPS interface called XGPS. Thanks to Ed Park's hard work XGPS is in Beta Testing and we are actively looking for testers. Email Ed at park.at.pointroberts.net if you'd like to be included.

XNO2 adds real GPS simulation to X-Planes repertoire.

XNO2 works by interfacing with a now-freeware "wrapper" program written by a now defunct Australian company called FS-Avionics. This product in-turn communicates with the older version Garmin GNS530 GPS simulator software. This ensures that the accuracy of the product is very high*.

Thanks to the effort of Kate Alhola, Linux users can use XNO2 through an interface called XUDP which is included in the XNO2 package.

XNO2 can also communicate with serial GPS devices. This lets you practice flying with your real yoke-mount GPS in the comfort and safety of your own home.

*Due to limitations in the FS-Avionics product the GPS is not entirely integrated into X-Plane as well or accurately as it should be, the degree of realism and utility is still extremely high however.

Note: The GNS-530 software does not work on a PPC mac unless you use something like VirtualPC. It might be possible to get the software to work on the new Intel Macs at native speeds using various products like Darwine, you will need to be an expert user to do this at the moment. If I ever get an Intel Mac I might publish instructions on how to make the GNS-530 software work with it. This could take some time though. Registration details for the FS-Avionics Garmin software.
Enter these details into Start > Programs > FSGarmin530 XP> Register FSGarmin530
Name = XNO User
Key = UCZWS-7SVY3
(This is not a key for the plugin.)

Caution! XNO2 for Windows may or may not work with XP V8.6x or V9. We have evidence that it works on most computers but not all. A modified, draft installation instruction document is included with the download bundle. We are actively working to solve remaining problems and if you don't want to try the program send an e-mail to us we'll send you a notice when there´s a final resolution.

Please reward Ben's hard work with a donation to him - The STMA Crew
